HEAD OF FASHION MA PROGRAMME, ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART

Zowie Broach is Head of Programme for Fashion at the RCA. Since her arrival she has radically changed the programme, introducing an inclusive, critical approach leading to new aesthetics and responses to the practice and industry of fashion.

 

Zowie co-founded the label Boudicca, the first independent British label to be invited as a guest member of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, then Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, in 2007. Her works had been exhibited at venues including the Victoria and Albert Museum,  the Chicago Arts Institute and Tel Aviv Museum. Boudicca’s Invisible City collection AW04 is part of the permanent collection of The Metropolitan in New York, Kensington Palace and FIT.

DR. YU- SUNG CHANG PH.D.

CEO, VIVITY AI INC.

Dr. Yu-Sung Chang is the founder and CEO of Vivity AI, an industrial AI company focusing on safe and environmentally friendly operations of energy and precision manufacturing companies. Before founding Vivity AI, he served as CTO of SSG.com/Emart group, one of the largest retail conglomerates in Korea. His career spans over 20 years as a technology leader and entrepreneur, including the head of T map mobility (SK telecom), Chief Product Officer at Wolfram Research, as well as the Sr. Director of Samsung Health. He also co-founded Huma AI in 2016, an AI company working on streamlining clinical trials and medical affairs.

Dr. Ling Fan is a design technology scholar and entrepreneur. He founded Tezign.com, a technology unicorn with the mission of building next generation digital infrastructure for creative resources. 


He is the founder of Tongji University Design AI Lab. Dr. Fan is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, and an Aspen Institute China Fellow. 


He received his doctoral degree from Harvard University and master's degree from Princeton University.

DESIGN AND INNOVATION LEADER

For nearly three decades Charles has worked within the context of sports, fashion, and active lifestyle products for leading global brands such as Adidas, Puma, Converse and Ralph Lauren. With a design degree from Carnegie Mellon, his professional starting point as a product designer transformed to executive level leadership shaping vision, teams, product experiences and global strategies. His consulting business, DrivenByCharles, serves a range of industries in the spaces of sports, healthcare, sustainability, social impact and personal mobility.

MR. ANSON SHUM

VICE PRESIDENT MARKETING, SAUVEREIGN

Anson Shum is an entrepreneurial marketing professional with over 15+ years’ experience across a number of industries including Arts & Culture, Sustainability, Luxury & fashion retailing and Travel gear.

 

His recent work has been predominantly in supporting start-ups on brand building, digital marketing and social media strategy. Currently serving as Vice President Marketing for SAUVEREIGN, the city's only luxury maison that creates precious, one-of-a-kind handmade objects in collaboration with a collective of exceptional artisans from all corners of the world.

 

Co-founded digital travel lifestyle brand OOKONN, where he plays a key role in branding. Its signature round rolling luggage were sold to 36 countries worldwide and featured in New York Times, British Vogue and Forbes. Prior to starting his own business, Anson spent over a decade in senior regional marketing roles for companies such as HUGO BOSS, Bluebell Group, Jimmy Choo, Moschino and Oettinger Davidoff. He also possesses a fashion degree at Central Saint Martins (CSM), University of the Arts London.

DR. YAN TINA LUXIMON

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, SCHOOL OF DESIGN,

THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY

Dr Yan Tina Luximon is an Associate Professor in School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She also serves as Lab Leader for Asian Ergonomics Design Lab and Deputy Discipline Leader for BA Product Design. She has published over 80 peer-reviewed journal papers, book chapters, patents and international conference papers. Her research interests include ergonomics in design, anthropometry and its application in design, 3D digital human modelling and CAD, design tool and visualisation, head and face related products, human computer interaction, cultural difference, statistical and mathematical models.

PROF. JEANNE TAN

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, SCHOOL OF FASHION AND TEXTILES,

THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY

Jeanne is a design practitioner that investigates creative innovation that interfaces design and technology. Her research focuses on intelligent textiles, interactive materials for well-being, and Design-Led STEM processes.

She has a record of award-winning teaching with pedagogical impact beyond the university. A robust design research agenda with 4* Bodies of Work (BoW) rated as World Leading based on the HK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020 and UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) criteria with external competitive funding totaling HKD$15.92 million.

The international reach of her research can be evinced by being showcased in international museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, UK, and collected as part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Silk, China. Research deliverables had been widely featured in media including Vogue, WGSN, Harper’s Bazaar, and the Public Broadcasting Service (USA). As a design consultant, Jeanne works with companies and organizations to implement fashion, textile, and creative education solutions. Her consultancies include LVMH Group (Celine, Givenchy, Kenzo, Loewe, Marc Jacobs), Nike, Alibaba, Fashionary, Kiabi, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, The Hong Kong SAR Government (EMSD), and The Hong Kong Red Cross.

MS. ANNE TOOMEY

HEAD OF PROGRAMME, TEXTILES, SCHOOL OF DESIGN,

Anne is a textiles specialist with national and international experience in research-based design, product development, manufacture, and postgraduate education.

 

With a background as a commercial designer and over 21 years in academia, Anne has a track record of initiating innovative approaches to cross-disciplinary collaborations.

 

As Head of the Textiles Programme at Royal College of Art, she leads a team of staff and over 140 students working at the creative interface between materials, making and meaning. Their collective focus is the innovation that impacts and spans across many sectors, exploring new territories for the twenty-first century Textiles specialist.

 

Under her leadership, the Textiles Programme has established the "Soft Systems" research group who focuses on Textiles Innovation, incorporating aspects of emerging material science with design to develop a platform of novel, multi-sensory textiles that explore new applications and routes to market.

DR. MANEL TORRES

MANAGING DIRECTOR, FABRICAN LTD

Dr. Torres is the inventor behind Fabrican the spray on material used to create the dress worn by Bella Hadid during Paris Fashion Week in 2022. He studied fashion design at undergraduate and graduate levels at the Royal College of Art in London.  Dr. Torres’s PhD study investigated the possibilities of crossing and interrelating the disciplines of science and design, in the form of spraying fabric on various surfaces. This initial development informed the strategic vision that has been sustaining Fabrican Ltd. since 2003, based first at Imperial College London and now, at the London Bioscience Innovation Centre. Dr. Torres has presented his invention at several events to academic and industry audiences. Dr. Torres leads the Fabrican team’s pioneering research and development of new concepts in the fashion and medical fields, as well as oil spill management.

PROF. CALVIN WONG

CHENG YIK HUNG PROFESSOR IN FASHION,

Prof. Calvin Wong is currently the CEO and Centre Director of Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (AiDLab), jointly established by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Royal College of Art in the UK. Calvin’s leading role brings together cutting-edge research by practitioners and scholars of both institutions to establish a new AI creative innovation cluster in the region.

Calvin is a trailblazer in the application of AI innovations within the context of the fashion industry for design, manufacturing, and retail. Ranked among the world's top 2% of most-cited scientists in the field of “Artificial intelligence & Image Processing”, he has been bridging academia and industry with his cutting-edge research. 

Calvin and his team are building new intelligent systems to disrupt the fashion industry. In 2019, he worked with Alibaba Group to establish the first-of-its-kind “Fashion AI Dataset” impacting the shopping experiences of millions of users on the platform. Calvin has recently developed AiDA (AI-based Interactive Design Assistant for Fashion) which is the world’s first designer-led AI system to facilitate designer’s inspiration and streamline the designing process. He has collaborated with renowned international fashion brand ANTEPRIMA to take the lead and adopt AiDA to assist in designing its capsule collection.

Calvin’s inventions have received numerous accolades including two Grand Awards and a Gold Medal with the Congratulations at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva. Calvin’s work has been extensively featured in the media such as BBC World News, Associated Press, Televisión Española, TV Tokyo, MediaCorp Singapore, etc.

DR. CHLOE KI

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, SCHOOL OF FASHION AND TEXTILES

THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY

Chung-Wha (Chloe) Ki, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of the School of Fashion and Textiles at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Chloe’s research interests lie in consumer psychology and behavior and linking it to diverse consumption contexts, aimed at identifying the core values and/or emotions of consumers that encourage or discourage their choice decisions. Particular focuses include AI and human-computer interaction, Digital technology mediated fashion retail and marketing, Circular fashion, and Luxury fashion. Chloe’s research has been published in highly regarded journals, including Journal of Business Research, Psychology and Marketing, European Journal of Marketing and Computers in Human Behavior and her research received Top Cited Article and Top Downloaded Paper awards and was featured in Forbes.

DR. TOMMY TSE

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, MEDIA STUDIES DEPARTMENT

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES, UNIVERSITY OF AMSTERDAM

Tommy Tse is Associate Professor in the Media Studies Department at The University of Amsterdam. He is also affiliated with the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA), the HKU Global China Social Research Hub, and the Department of Cultural Studies, Lingnan University as an Honorary Associate Professor (2022 – 2025). He specialises in Asia’s media and cultural industries, consumer culture, creative labour, digital culture and fashion.

Tse is a recipient of the prestigious European Research Council Consolidator Grant 2021 for his multi-sited ethnographic project "China Fashion Power - Fashioning Power through South-South Interaction: Re-thinking Creativity, Authenticity, Cultural Mediation and Consumer Agency along China-Africa Fashion Value Chains".  In Fall 2018, he was a Visiting Scholar/Research Associate at University College London (Anthropology Department) and London College of Fashion (Social and Cultural Studies). He serves the Editorial Board of Fashion, Style and Popular Culture (2021 – 2023)and International Journal of Fashion Studies (2021 – 2023). His work has appeared in Consumption Markets & Culture; European Journal of Cultural Studies; Journal of Consumer Culture; Journal of Cultural Economy; International Journal of Fashion Studies and New Media & Society among others. Previously, Tse taught at the University of Hong Kong’s Department of Sociology and Hong Kong Baptist University’s School of Communication.
